How To Read MLB Betting Odds:

As our site is mainly focused at North American MLB fans we are going to be explaining how to read American Odds, which is what you will find in 99% of the sportsbooks in North America for MLB Betting.

The great thing about online sports betting sites is that they will always display how much your wager will pay out before you place your bet. This way you can "fool around" with how much you would like to wager and check the payouts before confirming your bet. Either way you should try and understand how to read MLB betting odds for your own good.

There are two different types of odds you will find when you are betting on MLB (or any sport for that matter). The odds are laid out with either a positive (+) sign or negative (-) sign in front of a number. Here are an example of each type of odd:

(+140) and (-110)

In our first example (+140) you will see that there is a + sign in front of the number. This indicates to us that placing a wager on that outcome will pay out more money than the amount you bet. The number that follows the + sign indicates exactly how much it will payout. The number shows you how much a $100 wager would payout - so in our +140 example a $100 bet would payout $140 in profits or winnings. Many people aren't laying down $100 bets, but this can easily be calculated for lower size bets ($10 bet pays $14, $1 bet pays $1.40).

In the second example (-110) you will see that there is a - sign in front of the number. This indicates to us that placing a wager on that outcome will pay you less money than the amount you wagered. The number following the - sign shows you exactly how much you would have to bet in order to win $100 - so in our example you would need to wager $110 in order to win $100 in profits. Again, many people aren't making that size of wager, but it can easily be calculated to show how much you would need to wager to win $10 or $1.
